WILD HEARTS & HORSES

Wild Hearts & Horses Inc. specializes in reaching out to our troubled youth around the Cheyenne, Wyoming area. We accomplish guiding at-risk youth and those with mental health challenges on to the right path by bringing the heart of a horse to pair up with the human heart. We specialize in equine-assisted services that do not involve riding, and we will be implementing psychotherapy services with both a certified therapist and an equine specialist.

Equine-assisted services have been proven to be a beneficial intervention for at-risk youth, as it can help improve emotional regulation, communication skills, authenticity, connection, and self-esteem. By engaging with horses in a therapeutic setting, individuals can develop trust, empathy, and responsibility.  Research also suggests that equine-assisted services can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD in at-risk populations.
Our faith-based non-profit organization primarily partners with troubled youth but welcomes anyone who can benefit from the therapy that a horse helps give.  Our partnering includes child welfare, school reach out programs, counseling, and juvenile justice and prevention services. Our goal is to serve those populations who need it the most.

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose." -Romans 8:28

a wonderful therapy

Why horses?

Horses offer many positive benefits in their interactions with people. Horses have an innate way of helping humans without even trying.

Empowerment

It is proven that horses build confidence in the people they're around, especially when there is a specific purpose implemented. Horses empower people in a variety of ways.

social connection

The herd dynamic is based upon clear communication between members of the herd. When people are involved with horses, they become a part of that herd and horses help people learn how to clearly communicate what they want with pure intention.

boundaries

Horses don't want anything to do with people if they don't believe they can trust them. Horses have a great way of mirroring the human around them and demand respect. If respect is not given, the horse will not reciprocate in a way that is favorable.

self awareness

By building a relationship with a prey animal people become much more aware of how they relay their intentions.

Self-acceptance

Horses give us the ability to be just ourselves and that in itself is a wonderful thing.  When we are our true selves and can be genuinely honest and open with the horse, we can accept ourselves just the way we were created.

Social skills & problem solving

In order to successfully partner with horses, one must be able to communicate efficiently and keep their self calm under sometimes stressful situations.

meet the founder

Wild Hearts & Horses is a non-profit equine facilitated practice whose primary focus is to help human hearts with the heart of a horse. WHH is a 100% heart project founded by Jeannine Hawkins.  Jeannine has experience as both a former special education teacher and teaching general education.  After realizing how few resources the community in and around Cheyenne, Wyoming has to assist in aiding our youth with mental health issues this heart project was founded.

Jeannine is a PATH Intl. Certified Equine Specialist, and has over a decade worth of experience serving public school districts as a certified teacher (TX & WY), and serving equine therapy centers in both Texas and Colorado. This center will provide an alternative to talk therapies and regular play therapy. A dream of teaching and reaching youth, who truly need something extra, alongside equines is founded with this non-profit.

A Hope Outreach

An amazing alternative to traditional counseling and play therapy.

Healing through horses

There is a unique presence that a horse brings out in people. I have seen time and time again how horses help heal human hearts. It is an amazing thing. Horses have personally helped me as well as countless others that I've been able to personally witness.

We focus on equine assisted learning primarily geared toward youth but help heal hearts of any age with the help of the horse. We plan to implement equine facilitated psychotherapy in the near future.

Horses bring a special aspect to therapy. Horses bring something unique to sessions and enhance the effectiveness of therapy. When other therapies have failed, equine assisted therapy has been proven to help the human heart.
